Watch more of Act 1
Homework for this weekend:
If If you have not already read them, please read the Act 1 analysis (pp 3-4 in yesterday's Hamlet Act Summary and Analyis packet). In the middle of next week (probably Wednesday, November 15), we will Have a Hamlet Act 1 quiz worth 25 points. The Act Summary and Analysis packet will helpo you immensely in your preparation.
This weekend, make sure you are familiar with two important Act 1 speeches:
1) Polonius's advice to Laertes speech (the first one in your Act 1 packet)
and 2) the Hamlet "too sullied flesh" speech (the second one in the Act 1 packet).
This weekend make sure you read the explanation notes for each speech and then you must paraphrase each line (put them into modern language) in the margins to the right of the speech. Visual check by me on Monday.
Later in the Hamlet unit (November 27, to be precise) you will have a speech paraphrasing quiz on these two speeches and several others important speeches in the play.
If you are really strugling with specific line, Spark Notes is one of many sites that has parphrasing (Shakespeare Made Easy text) which can help you with your translations.Visual check on Monday You can use your handwritten translation notes from this packet on the November 27th Hamlet speeches quiz.
